A bar manager fears it could be dangerous to base next year's Rugby World Cup party zone near Victoria Park in Auckland.
The Government is considering a variety of alternative locations after plans for a so-called party central venue at Queens Wharf stalled last week.
Prime Minister John Key has suggested the Victoria Park Market area as a possible party zone.
But a motorway tunnel under the park is not due to be fully completed until 2012.
Deda's bar manager Scott Taylor says intoxicated people near roadworks is not a good idea.
He says Victoria Park Market would also be too small and too far away from the central city.
