The women who were injured were seen as passengers in a car that was driving dangerously near Papakura's town centre shortly after midday today.

Police attempted to pull over the car, but the driver failed to stop. Officers pursued the car, but gave up the chase after a short time due to the reckless driving.

After police stopped pursuing the car, it continued driving until it crashed on Elliot St a short time later.

The driver attempted to flee the scene, but was arrested and police said charges will be laid.

Two women in the car were seriously injured and taken to Middlemore Hospital.

Police said firearms were found in the car.

Earlier today, another police car was rammed in South Auckland.

An off-duty police officer saw a stolen vehicle in Mangere Bridge about 6.30am.

Shortly afterwards, a patrol vehicle spotted the vehicle and pulled over to do a U-turn. Police said the suspected vehicle was then driven into the police car.

Both vehicles were badly damaged, but the officer in the car was unhurt.

Two occupants of the other car, aged 14 and 15, fled from the vehicle but were arrested and are custody. Police said charges will be laid.
