Queenstown man dies while fishing

A Queenstown man who got into trouble while fishing in the Tasman District has been found dead, police say.

Dutch explorer Abel Tasman dropped anchor in Mohua (Golden Bay, originally named Murderer’s Bay) in December 1642.

Emergency services received calls just before 3pm on Boxing Day reporting that a man had got into trouble fishing at Golden Bay in the Tasman District.

Police said the body of 49-year-old Mark Noel Salmons, of Queenstown, was recovered from the water by emergency services shortly afterwards.

The death was referred to a coroner.
