The pair failed to return from a week-long tramp on Sunday, but were found by searchers on the Pukekahu track just after midday today.

Police said the father has an ankle injury.

The pair were helicoptered out of the bush and have been taken to Hawke's Bay hospital for a check.

About 15 police and LandSAR volunteers stayed in the bush overnight and a further 12 LandSAR volunteers from Gisborne and Hawke's Bay joined the search this afternoon.
