One person has minor burns and firefighters are undergoing decontamination after a house fire in Piha, on Auckland's west coast.

Six fire crews fought the blaze in Piha Road at about 3.30am.

Two water tankers were brought in due to limited water supplies.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Paul Radden said the two-storey house was suspected of containing asbestos and the hazardous substances unit was decontaminating six firefighters.

The injured person was treated by St John ambulance staff.
