The 47-year-old was admitted to hospital with critical injuries after an altercation on Long Range Road on 17 November. He died this afternoon and his death was referred to the coroner.

The police believe many people were involved.

Hawke's Bay Area Commander Inspector Dave Greig said some of those believed to be involved were actively avoiding police.

"We do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public but we are seeking a number of people in relation to the incident," he said.

A 46-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery on Wednesday in relation to the incident. He is due to appear in the Waipukurau District Court on 8 December.

The police have appealed for information.
