A man has drowned near Muriwai Beach.

Emergency services were called to a person in trouble in the water at Maori Bay about 3.30pm today.
St John said three vehicles were sent, and a helicopter was dispatched.
However, police said the man was found dead in the water.
Police remain at the scene talking to witnesses and supporting the man's friends.
