One person is dead after a garage sleepout caught fire in South Auckland.
Fire struck two separate properties in Mangere overnight.
Fire and emergency were called to a property on Rosella Road at about 2am, where a garage sleepout was on fire.
Northern communications shift commander Paul Radden said a person was killed in the fire, and no one else was in the property.
The person's age and gender is not known.
Police believe the fire started accidentally. The death has been referred to the coroner
Earlier in the evening the fire service was called to Courtenay Crescent to a fire where one person was treated for mild smoke inhalation.
