The Auditor-General has declined a request from Manukau mayor Len Brown to look into his credit card expenditure but says it will take a closer look at spending within his council.
Mr Brown had made the request after it was revealed he had not always followed the council's rules - by using the card, for instance, to buy his family a ham.
Mr Brown now says that the Auditor-General's staff have acknowledged he made mistakes but that they consider the council's auditing arrangements adequate for dealing with the matter.
