A delegation from Te Ohu Kaimoana Maori Fisheries Trust and its commercial subsidiary Aotearoa Fisheries, has been in Dubrovnik learning about the latest in aquaculture techniques.
Trust chair Ngahiwi Tomoana says Croatia is the centre of European fish farming.
He told Waatea News that iwi are switching their focus from harvesting of wild fish to what they can do closer to shore.
Mr Tomoana said it's about adapting techniques so species other than mussels can be farmed.
