Two people have been arrested after an 11-day-old baby was snatched from a home in Epsom this morning.

Police said they received a report the baby had been kidnapped from a residential address in Epsom about 7am today.

The child was found safe and well after a search, and was returned to the parents about 1.30pm.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said the baby's parents had been distraught, and had gone through a "terrible ordeal".

"This has been an extremely harrowing time for the new parents of a very young baby. We are relieved and thankful that the baby was not harmed and has been reunited with her parents."

Two women, aged 21 and 18, have been arrested and will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow on kidnapping and burglary charges.

Police said they were pleased the investigation had been resolved swiftly.
