The wife of anti-whaling campaigner Peter Bethune hopes a ban by Sea Shepherd from its future anti-whaling activities helped his case in Japan.

He faces five charges, including trespass and assault.

The Tokyo trial ended on Thursday, but a verdict will not be given until 7 July.

Sharyn Bethune told Morning Report she is not sure if banning him would have helped her husband's case, but hoped it did.

The charges relate to his boarding of a Japanese whaling ship in the Southern Ocean in February.
