The president of the Court of Appeal has been promoted to the Supreme Court, joining five other judges there.
Sir William Young, a Queen's Counsel since 1991, became a High Court judge in 1997. He joined the Court of Appeal in 2003 and became its president in 2006.
His appointment to the Supreme Court takes effect at the start of July.
At the same time, Justice Mark O'Regan will take over Sir William's former position as the Court of Appeal's president.
