Millions of dollars have been spent gearing skifields up for what the industry predicts will be a bumper season.
Several ski areas say the new technologies are already helping to boost Australian bookings.
NZ Ski has implemented a radio frequency identification system at Coronet Peak, the Remarkables and Mt Hutt.
It says the technology is the most intelligent of its kind in the world, giving skiers access to the mountains without queueing, improving security and safety, and enabling enthusiasts to track their runs online.
In what is thought to be another world first, the lift for Mt Hutt's learner slope is now indoors.
And the first automated chairlift in the southern hemisphere has been installed at Coronet Peak.
