A man was killed when he was hit by a van on State Highway 2 in Upper Hutt this morning.

Police said the pedestrian was struck shortly after 7am at the Totara Park intersection.
Initial reports that two trucks had also crashed at the scene were incorrect, police said. Two truck drivers had in fact stopped to help when the pedestrian was hit.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
A northbound lane on State Highway 2 was closed, but has since re-opened.
