The Kāpiti Expressway opened last month, and within two years the Transport Agency will hand over responsibility for the former state highway to the district council.
The council is inviting locals to come up with names for seven sections of the 18km-stretch that have a historical connection to the district.
Residents have until mid-April to send in their suggestions, or they can vote on names suggested by the district's three iwi and a local historian.
