The southbound road was shut at Ramarama after the crash near the Bombay off-ramp, but has now re-opened.
One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Transport Agency has advised drivers to leave the motorway at Drury and use Great South Road.
Although all lanes were now clear, traffic through the area was heavy and people could expect delays, said NZTA.
