A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 42-year-old man in Gore on Tuesday night.
The police say they found the body at a house on Main Street at about 10:20pm and launched a homicide inquiry.
The arrest was made after the Armed Offenders Squad was called to a nearby house on Hyde Street, several hours after the body was discovered.
A 43-year-old man is charged with assault and scheduled to appear in the Invercargill District Court on Wednesday.
The police say they are looking for a white Ford Laser saloon that was in the Main Street area just before the body was found and want any witnesses to come forward with information.
