Six people injured in a bus crash in Tongariro Forest Park yesterday morning are still in hospital.

Fourteen tourists and the driver were on a MoaTrek tour bus when it crashed down a bank into a creek, at the intersection of state highways 47 and 48.

St John Ambulance said two seriously injured people were flown to Rotorua Hospital, and two to Waikato Hospital.

Eleven others were taken by ambulances to various hospitals in the central North Island.

MoaTrek's director Miles Clark said nine had been discharged so far but six others, including the bus driver, remained in hospital.

He said the company will make arrangements for those discharged to travel back to Auckland.
