Police stymied in pensioner death probe

Police investigating the killing of an Opotiki pensioner say there is a group of people who seem to be holding out on information about the man's death.

The body of John Alan Rowe, 78, was discovered at his Windsor Street home on Monday.

A post-mortem found that Mr Rowe died as a result of head injuries.

Police executed two search warrants at local addresses on Tuesday morning and two people were questioned but have since been released without charge.

Detective Inspector Rob Jones says he is confident that two items recovered from the victim's home were used to carry out the attack.
