The 18th annual Global Salary Survey, by recruitment firm Robert Walters, is based on the company's placements.

The head of the company in New Zealand, Shay Peters, said positive economic conditions meant demand for skilled professionals would outstrip supply.

"There are gradual increases where before it's been fairly stagnant.

"So people can expect a little jump in salary if they're making a lateral move and New Zealand's not really a boom or bust economy so we're not seeing huge increases in salaries - but they are marked and are noticeable."

Mr Peters said employers would also need to make jobs more attractive by offering extra benefits, such as flexible working conditions.

The survey found 61 percent of professionals will look to move jobs this year.
