New speed restrictions on vehicles are being enforced on some of Auckland's busiest beaches to protect beachgoers.
The restrictions at Muriwai and Te One One Rangatira beaches by the Rodney District Council, come after the death of a girl in January.
Daisy Fernandez, 13, was hit by a motorbike racing without headlights on a beach near Dargaville on New Year's Eve.
Auckland Regional Council member Christine Rose says there have been 14 deaths from vehicles on Muriwai beach over the past five to 10 years.
She says the restrictions aim to prevent further tragedies.
