South Taranaki District Council hopes that rain forecast for next week will put an end to water restrictions there.
The council says recent dry weather has increased demand but a ban on the use of garden sprinklers and irrigation systems should help to avoid more serious restrictions.
The council says it is updating its water systems, and should have a new bore in operation by this time next year.
