Murderer with 'manipulative character' denied parole

A convicted murderer who's been in and out of prison in the past decade has been denied parole.

Michelle Nicholson was given a life sentence for her part in the 1997 murder of retired Temuka businessman Dennis Hind.

After manipulating Mr Hind to include her in his will, Nicholson convinced her young lover, Robert Smith, to kill him.

Mr Hind was stabbed more than 100 times while he slept.

Nicholson has been granted parole twice, in 2007 and 2011, but was recalled to prison on both occasions, most recently in February of this year, after police discovered drugs in her house.

In a judgement from the Parole Board, Judge Jeremy Gittos said Nicholson had a manipulative character and addictive personality.

He said she required ongoing psychological treatment and support.
