Auckland City Council says a speedier system of getting building consents is long overdue and worth the extra cost.
One-off call-out fees are going up by between 5% - 8%, with some of this revenue going towards the cost of streamlining the system - almost $20 million.
City Development Committee chair councillor Aaron Bhatnagar says the council has been criticised for taking too long with the consents.
He says applicants - whether private or commercial - were all conscious of time and money, and will welcome quicker processing.
