Detectives investigating the killing of an elderly Opotiki man have executed a number of search warrants in the township.
No arrests were made.
John Rowe, 78, a former maths teacher at Opotiki College, was found dead on Tuesday morning. He had severe head injuries.
Detective Inspector Rob Jones says police have also been interviewing a number of potential witnesses.
On Thursday, he described an attack on Mr Rowe as violent and cowardly. It took place in his bedroom.
