A woman has pleaded guilty to abandoning two of her children.

The 34-year-old appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning.

Through her lawyer Michael Kan, she pleaded guilty to two charges of abandoning a child and three charges of obtaining by deception.

The first child was abandoned in September 2007, when the child was 14 months old.

In August this year, she abandoned a second child, aged four.

Mr Kan said the woman has been in New Zealand unlawfully and it was likely she would be deported at the end of her sentence.

She was remanded in custody and will be sentenced in February.
