Boulder blocking part of West Coast highway

10:18 pm on 26 November 2008

Partial access has been restored on a West Coast highway blocked by a rockfall on Wednesday.

Police closed State Highway 6 near Berlins at 3.30pm after part of the hillside came down.

Explosives were used to clear the road. Police say one of two boulders has been removed, allowing one-way traffic.

However, motorists should still expect delays.

Police say a decision will be made on Thursday on how to remove the second large boulder.

Police say people travelling between Westport and Inangahua Junction could also use

State Highway 69 and State Highway 7 through Reefton.
