Duck season begins

7:53 am on 1 May 2010

The 2010 duck shooting season began at 6.30am on Saturday, 1 May.

Fish & Game says there is likely to be a lack of ducks in areas such as Waikato and Northland where there is drought, and Southland where there are floods.

It recommends that hunters in Southland look to flooded farmland for the best spots.

However other parts of the country, such as Thames and the Wellington region, appear strong, with good weather conditions and bird numbers.
