The Fire Service was called to the suburb of Brown's Bay around 9.45am.

Lines company Vector said 910 homes in the area were affected.

The power cut also put some some traffic lights on ANZAC Road and Beach Road out of action and police were asking motorists to take care.

Power was due to be restored by midday.
