US election campaign reaches its climax; National expects more "dirty tricks" from Labour in the last days of the election campaign; tougher sentences for killers wanted by marchers in Christchurch.

The New Zealand Herald says a freak accident in Pukekohe has left a man fighting for his life after a bullet meant for a water buffalo ricocheted off a tree, went through the roof of a ute he was sitting in and hit him in the back of the head.

Police have found no offence was committed when the New Zealand First Party failed to declare an $80,000 donation.

And it's decision day in the United States, with millions preparing to vote.

The Dominion Post says the epic battle to become the next US president has reached its climax, with a serene Barak Obama going into election day 'feeling good,' while John McCain vowed to fight to the end.

At home: a covert tape of National Party deputy leader Bill English has caught him criticising Senator Obama for being too "moralistic" about international relations.

The Press says hundreds of people marched through central Christchurch on Tuesday calling for tougher sentences for the killers of their loved ones.
