An Auckland lawyer who took $10,000 from a client has been struck off after being found guilty of misconduct.

Mary Hackshaw had been practising as a lawyer for nearly 30 years.

She was administering a trust while taking money from it.

As well as being struck off the register of lawyers, she has been ordered to repay the $10,000 and pay an additional $10,000 in costs to the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal.

Law Society President Kathryn Beck said Ms Hackshaw had abused her position of trust.
