The 26-year-old appeared in the Manukau District Court by video link this morning.

He is charged with unlawful possession of a pistol.

He has been released on several conditions including a curfew and a ban on alcohol and non-prescription drugs.

The judge also granted him continued interim name suppression and told him he would be able to visit the burial site of the toddler, but must arrange it with the police.

The defendant was told it was unlikely the name suppresion order would be renewed when he next appeared in court on 25 July.
