Some residents of Ellerslie are against a plan to build a 12-storey apartment building in their neighbourhood.
The Auckland Racing Club, which owns the Ellerslie racecourse, is seeking a change to the city's district plan to allow new development on the site.
That would enable a hotel and up to four apartment buildings to be built to generate revenue for the club.
But Ellerslie residents say the proposed buildings are too high, would interrupt their views and would cause traffic disruption on the streets there.
The Auckland Racing Club says the district plan application will be formally submitted to Auckland City Council by Christmas.
