Blenheim residents face months of water restrictions from Saturday as the town's water treatment plant is upgraded.
The plant's pumps have to be switched off while work is done and this will continue until late January.
In the meantime, households will only be able to use sprinklers on alternate days.
The Marlborough District Council says if people do not observe restrictions and reduce consumption, the town could run short of water over summer.
