Maori in Hawke's Bay have signed a deed of settlement for a Waitangi Tribunal claim over health services.
The claim, which three individuals lodged in 1998, followed a decision to close Napier hospital and relocate major health services to Hastings.
It alleged the Crown breached Treaty of Waitangi principles by failing to provide for the health and well-being of Maori in Ahuriri, or Napier.
Since 2001 when the Waitangi Tribunal found the the Crown had breached its duties, the parties have been negotiating a settlement.
The package is worth just over $2.5 million, includes the provision of contracts for oral health, social services and traditional Maori healing.
