Some doctors' practices have run out of seasonal flu vaccine following a 10% rise in public demand this year.
Taradale GP Mark Peterson says 180 people were given vaccines during a single morning at an open clinic at his practice.
The Ministry of Health says two new shipments arrived this week and will be with doctors shortly.
Since 1 March, when the vaccine began to be offered, it has distributed 530,000 doses of the vaccine from its three suppliers.
The ministry says 13% of the population has had the jab compared to 22% for the whole of last year. The goal is 32%.
Uptake among at-risk groups, including children and pregnant women, also appears higher than usual.
