Police investigating an attack on two police officers in a Waikato town early on Saturday morning have arrested three teenage boys.
The officers stopped to investigate a disturbance in the Waikato town of Ngaruawahia at about 12.30am on Saturday as about 35 people left a party. They were attacked by a group of people, one of whom allegedly used a pool cue.
The officers used pepper spray to defend themselves and managed to escape.
Detective Sergeant Mata John of Ngaruawahia CIB says one of the three arrested boys, a 15-year-old, has been charged on three counts of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one of intentional damage.
The two other boys have been referred to Youth Aid in relation to intentional damage on the officer's patrol car.
Detective Sergeant John says the 15-year-old will appear in the Hamilton Youth Court on Monday.
The officers were treated at Waikato Hospital before being released to recuperate at home.
