The Ministry of Fisheries has confirmed it will increase the catch for the Southern bluefin tuna.
Marine advocates have been pressuring the Government not to do so as the species is being fished to the brink of extinction.
At the last Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna international meeting, it was agreed catch limits should be cut by 20%.
However, Acting Fisheries Minister David Carter has increased the catch from 420 tonnes to 532 tonnes to make up for being allocated a much smaller proportion of the fishery than other countries.
Catch limits have also increased for the Southern Blue Whiting and in some crayfish areas.
