Elective surgeries postponed due to industrial action

8:57 am on 24 March 2010

The Auckland District Health Board says planned industrial action by about 60 medical staff at Auckland City and Starship hospitals means some elective surgeries must be postponed at Auckland City Hospital.

Medical radiation technologists from the Association of Professional and Executive Employees are to walk off the job from Friday until Monday in an ongoing pay dispute.

The DHB says the union has agreed to provisions for covering urgent cases.

The board says it also expects delays at Auckland City Hospital's emergency department and is urging people to see their GPs unless they have a real emergency.
