Friends and family of a sailor missing off the east coast of the North Island are calling for the search for him to continue.
An extensive search for Paul van Rensburg by the Rescue Coordination Centre last week failed to find any signs of him or his vessel, the 11-metre yacht Tafadzwa.
Mr van Rensburg, an experienced sailor, left Tauranga with his dog on 12 March to sail to Gisborne, where he was due to start a new job.
The search was called off on Thursday after an aerial sweep covering nearly 330,000 square kilometres of ocean.
A spokesperson for the "Let's Find Paul Group", Warwick Gowland, says they've consulted search and rescue experts from around the world and believe the search should have extended further north.
Mr Gowland says the group is presenting the Rescue Coordination Centre with more information in the hope they'll restart the search.
A spokesperson for the centre says that they are confident that a robust search has been carried out but that they would restart it if new information surfaced. The centre is liasing with the United States Coast Guard to obtain satellite imaging of unsearched areas.
Maritime New Zealand says it will keep broadcasting a request to all vessels to report any sightings of the yacht, which may be continuing to sail while not under command - the possibility being that Mr van Rensburg has fallen overboard or is sick or injured.
