10:18 pm on 11 March 2010

A national programme to boost the number of Maori working in the health sector has been launched at Auckland Airport's Te Manukanuka o Hoturoa marae.

Project manager Tuhakia Kepa says Kia Ora Hauroa aims to recruit another 1000 Maori workers into the sector over the next two years.

The programme is being overseen by Counties Manukau District Health Board, with the Waitemata, Lakes, Capital and Coast and Canterbury DHBs managing regional hubs, reports Waatea News.

Mr Kepa says a Kia Ora Hauroa website will give students information about the best training options.
