A woman is in a serious condition in Whangarei Hospital with multiple stab wounds.
A man, 40, will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Thursday on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping after an attack in Rawene at 10.30pm on Wednesday.
Police say it was a domestic incident.
