A member of Canterbury District Health Board is seeking legal advice after being asked to leave a board meeting last week.
Andrew Dickerson, who is also chief executive of Age Concern Canterbury, was excluded from discussion on a report on aged care because of a potential conflict of interest.
But Mr Dickerson says the board had no grounds to exclude him because Age Concern does not provide residential care for the elderly.
Mr Dickerson says he is awaiting legal advice from Wellington lawyer Mai Chen, and if it comes back in his favour, he will fight for his right to participate in future discussions on aged care.
Board chairman Alister James supports Mr Dickerson's move, saying the matter is not clear-cut and rules on potential conflicts of interest need to be more clearly defined.
Mr James says two other members were also excluded from the discussion because of potential conflicts of interest.
