The Prime Minister has been declared an honorary Northlander in recognition of what the Labour-led government has done for the region in the past nine years.

Helen Clark visited the region on Monday to announce an $8 million investment in Northec, to expand trades training.

Presenting her with an honorary Northlander certificate, regional councillor Craig Brown said the region had seen an array of things happen under Miss Clark's leadership.

And the council chairman, Mark Farnsworth, said her government had done more for Northland than any previous government. He said the region was in a bad way when the Labour-led government came in, and it has pumped millions of dollars into the region's forestry, roads and other infrastructure.
