A charitable trust has been set up to help retain and preserve the cultural treasures of the Waikato region.

The Waikato Bequest Trust aims to increase the region's museum collection and keep significant artworks in the district.

Set up in partnership with the Hamilton City Council and the Waikato Museum, it will encourage the gifting of art and artefacts.

Hamilton's Mayor, Bob Simcock, says benefactors can now be confident their gifts and bequests will be secure in perpetuity and enjoyed for generations to come.
