Winter weather keeps coming

12:33 pm on 24 July 2008

More bad weather is rolling over New Zealand. MetService warns that wind, rain and snow will bring unsettled conditions to many areas.

A deep low is currently moving up the South Island and will hit the North Island on Thursday afternoon.

Virtually all New Zealand will be in the grip of a deep low by Thursday evening - bringing heavy snow, rain and high winds.

Snow warnings are in place for all the South Island alpine passes and the North Island Desert Road, with falls down to 400 metres in other areas including Canterbury.

There are high winds in Wellington where a strong warning was issued for the next 12 hours from 8am.

However, high seas along the west coast of the North Island will ease.
