Police in Christchurch are seeking witnesses to an incident in which an elderly woman says a man who may have been blind pushed her on to a road in front of traffic.

The incident occurred as the 77-year-old woman was walking south on Colombo Street by Sydenham Park just before 5pm on Monday.

Constable Alan Roberts says the man was walking a Labrador using a dog harness and may possibly have been blind.

The woman fell, knocking her head, grazing an elbow and hurting her shoulder.

Mr Roberts says he has already heard from several witnesses but would like more information to establish whether it was a deliberate act.
