Canterbury Mortgage Trust freezes $250 million until March; meningoccocal disease vaccination programme thought to now protect less than half of those innoculated; questions raised over other donations intended for NZ First.

The New Zealand Herald says fewer than half of New Zealand's young children are thought to be still protected against the meningoccocal disease epidemic, despite a $250 million mass vaccination programme.
Prime Minister Helen Clark was giving cautious support to Winston Peters on Monday night as fallout continued over a $100,000 donation from businessman Owen Glenn.
The Herald also reports on new research from the Leeds Dental Institute which has found a way to repair cavities in teeth and eliminate the need for drilling and fillings.

Under the headline "Where did the money go?" The Dominion Post reports Winston Peters faces fresh scrutiny over whether at least $150,000 in donations from one of New Zealand's wealthiest families ever reached New Zealand First's bank account.
The paper says its investigation reveals a series of donations from accounts linked to the Vela family, who have interests in the racing and fishing industries. The paper also says the Ministry of Health is baffled by ingredients in new-generation party pills and has asked scientists to investigate further.

The Press says more bad news hit the finance sector on Monday night when property lender Canterbury Mortgage Trust announced it had frozen $250 million dollars of investors' money. Around 5000 investors will be unable to withdraw their money until March next year.
The paper devotes much of its front page to a helicopter crash in Utah in which Canterbury father and son James and Andrew Innes were killed.

The Otago Daily Times says the helicopter crash has devastated members of the Innes family, a decade after a similar crash killed their eldest son and brother.
Wanaka's top policeman Aaron Nicholson promises "bobbies will be back on the beat" in Wanaka following an announcement on Monday of six additional officers for the town.
