T Rex cast on display

8:16 am on 22 July 2008

A cast of the world's largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton is to go on show in New Plymouth.

At 3.5 metres tall and almost 13 metres long, the dinosaur will be at the Puke Ariki museum from Saturday.

The museum says six shipping containers were needed to bring it to New Zealand.

The fossilised skeleton was found in North Dakota in 1990 and is now kept in the Field Museum in Chicago. The museum says the actual fossil won't be on show - the display is a cast of the skeleton.

The display will go to the Auckland Museum in November.
